We are a small and friendly society founded in 1966 by railway workers who were interested in amateur radio. Membership is open to anyone, licensed or listener, interested in railways of any gauge (including metros, light rail, trams and model railways) and amateur radio.
Our magazine, “Rails and Radio”, is published as a paper magazine and is sent by post to our members. Articles and photos from members (and non-members) are always welcomed by our editor. We operate regular nets (see our web site for frequencies and times) and all are welcome to join in. Our members occasionally run special event stations during the year, usually with a railway theme and often at or near heritage railways.
BRARS is affiliated to the RSGB and also to FIRAC (Federation Internationale des Radio Amateurs Cheminots – International Federation of Railway Radio Amateurs).
