YOTA Croatia 2022 – Day 6

| August 12, 2022

What did you get up to on Day 6?

After breakfast we went off to hunt small Si5351 based transmitters around the nearby park. We were able to track down a total of nine transmitters using CW from 80m receivers. Another activity followed shortly after where we got hands-on experience of how to assemble a 40m vertical antenna. The rest of the day was spent on the air, where we managed to contact countries including Japan, Indonesia, Iran, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Portugal, USA and more.

The day was finished with another TTT session where teams had an opportunity to share their ideas to the group as well as listen to their expertise regarding HAM camp organisations back in their countries.

What was your favourite bit of the day?

Some participants have never done ARDF before, and certainly it was the highlight of the day. Locating the transmitters and utilising the beam direction was a really fun experience.

What did you learn that you didn’t already know?

Learned about radials and how their induced ground plane helps operating.

What are you looking forward to next?

Tomorrow we will be operating from the castle (COTA). Excited!
