YOTA Croatia 2022 – Day 3

| August 10, 2022

What did you get up to on Day 3?

Today we had an early start to go to Krk Island to operate an Islands On The Air (IOTA) station. We all enjoyed working the special event station, making contacts on 20m, via amateur satellites and using QO-100.

After lunch some YOTA participants went swimming in the sea to cool off, which was followed by our second Train-the-Trainer activity. We were split into small groups and tasked with producing activities that could be used to introduce young people into amateur radio. At the end of the week, these activities will be compiled and published on the YOTA website.

After a long drive back to our camp, we had a relaxed evening socialising with the other teams.

What was your favourite bit of the day?

We all really enjoyed being on the island of Krk, it was a fantastic location for radio operation!

What did you learn that you didn’t already know?

We learned about what the technical challenges that need to be overcome when working satellites.

What are you looking forward to next?

The fourth day will be a continuation of our “Wabbit” assembly and building. We will all have an opportunity to write and develop code for the Atmega328 microcontroller which will then be used the following day for the ARDF activity.
