YOTA Croatia 2022 – Day 2

| August 10, 2022

What did you get up to on Day 2?

Today started with a presentation on digital modes, focusing mainly on FT8. This was followed by the opportunity for our whole group to make contacts using FT8, a first for some of us. Next, we had an introduction to amateur satellites, which involved a demonstration of a QO-100 station.

After lunch we had a construction activity, where we each built a “wabbit” Amateur Radio Direction Finding (ARDF) transmitter that we would be programming later in the week. Our final group activity for the day was a discussion on sustainability in amateur radio.

Before dinner we had our first Train-the-Trainer session, which is a significant focus for YOTA 2022. The session started with Otava (OH3OT) giving us an introduction to the concept of YOTA and explaining what it will involve during the week. Finally for Day 2, we had the intercultural evening, where each team brought local food and drinks from their home country in order to share each other’s culture.

What was your favourite bit of the day?

The construction activity was a big hit, and we are all looking forward to programming our ARDF transmitters later in the week.

What did you learn that you didn’t already know?

We learned more about what the YOTA organisers have been doing with Train-the-Trainers since the last event, including starting a Kids On The Air (KOTA) event in the Czech Republic.

What are you looking forward to next?

We’re all looking forward to tomorrow’s Islands On The Air (IOTA) activation!
