YOTA Hungary 2023 – Day 2

| August 8, 2023

What did you get up to on Day 2?

First of all, we learnt about HST (High Speed Telegraphy). It was impressive to see how fast people can interpret dots and dashes in competitions, over 40 words per minute!

Another of the day’s lectures was about managing radio pileups and the role that the “hunter” and “hunted” play when in a pileup situation. The lecture provided some useful practical advice that will come in handy later in the week, if we get a chance to run the event station.

After lunch, plans were delayed due to bad weather, but eventually we toured the city of Gyor, saw the local sights – such as the Roman castle, town hall and the building where the first electric motor was developed.

Later, we had another Train the Trainer lecture. A couple of the subregional camp organisers spoke and introduced us to the process of setting up and hosting a subregional camp in our home countries. We learnt that it was a lot easier than we had anticipated and we feel a bit more confident in hosting one within the UK.
