WRC-12 Days 20/21, 11 and 12 February 2012 – Ad Hoc Meetings

| February 12, 2012

No formal meetings took place over the weekend; however a number of ad hoc meetings took place between regional groups. Agreements were made on various issues concerning future agenda items. In an attempt to reduce the length of future conferences and, consequentially, the cost, agreement has been reached in principle to reduce the number of agenda items. As an example, the number of agenda items for consideration for WRC-12 was 25; under the draft proposal for WRC-15, this would be reduced to 18. This will be considered during Committee 6 (COM6) meetings this coming week.

Agenda Item 1.23 – 500kHz

The text for an amateur service band at 472-479kHz has been revised and should be re-visited for a first and possible second final reading during the Tuesday plenary meetings. While the basic regulatory table and text remains intact, the revisions affect the differences between the French and English interpretation of the footnotes.

Agenda Item 8.2 – Future Agenda Items

5MHz

During the ad hoc meetings referred to above, the proposal for an amateur service allocation at 5MHz, amongst others, was discussed. It was agreed in principle that the proposal should be included as one of the 18 agenda items and would be supported. The proposal itself will be formally considered during the meeting of COM6 on Monday.
