Basil N Tait, G3DDN, 1 December 2014
Basil Tait, G3DDN, passed away on 1 December 2014 at the age of 89.
His interest in radio began during the Second World War when he was attached to an RAF mobile communications unit. After service in India and Singapore he was moved to Hong Kong, where his was the first signal out of that country at the end of the War.
He was a very accomplished professional musician and, as might be expected, his CW was first class.
In his musical career he was involved for many years with Frankie Vaughan, when he was performing in New York, Las Vegas and in the UK including a Royal Command performance. Basil’s band played for the first class passengers on Cunard Line ships.
In retirement he used his talents in support of various groups providing music for the likes of Newquay’s Lane Theatre and Mawgan Porth Cabaret Club.
His generosity of spirit will be sadly missed.
