Activating an Historic RSGB Call Sign for the G2SZ/Z4AA Centenary

(Cecil Goyder at the G2SZ station)

We invite every RSGB member with a Full Licence and access to an HF station with computer logging, to join the team of activators for the three days – Friday 18 October, Saturday 19 October and Sunday 20 October 2024.

Who can operate?

All Full Licence holders who are Members of the RSGB are eligible to apply to operate one of the RSGB Contest Club Calls. Intermediate and Foundation Licensees can also operate under the supervision of a full licence holder.

Taking part is very simple…

To operate or to supervise others, you must be a member of the RSGB Contest Club (with no obligation to take part in any contests).
This is necessary to comply with the terms of the Club Licences issued by Ofcom.

If would like take part, please send an email request, including the call sign that you would like to activate, to ContestClub@rsgbcc.org. If you are not already a member of the RSGB Contest Club, please include your name, call sign and RSGB membership number and request to join.

(Typical Schedule)

Each RSGB Club Call has its own schedule which is held on a Google Spreadsheet – see example above.
Each schedule has a page for each day and is divided into three time-columns: 0000-1200 UTC, 1200-1800 UTC, 1800-2359 UTC.
Time-columns are split into bands: 160, 80, 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12 & 10.
Each band is divided into modes: CW, Data (combining RTTY, PSK & FT modes) & SSB.
This gives a total of 26 band/mode slots in each time slot. Theoretically, we can have 26 stations active with each RSGB Club Call at any time.
Please book no more than three slots in any one time column. If on a particular day, a slot is unreserved, you may take that slot at the time, providing you keep no more than three slots booked in total. This gives others an opportunity to activate the call sign.

Links to the Google Spreadsheets are shown on the table below. You will be given access to add your callsign to columns in the schedule for a particular callsign on request. Please choose which call sign you would like to activate when you get in touch.

The only essential is to send us an ADIF file log with all QSOs made using the call sign. As an activator you will have no responsibility for Paper QSL cards, Club Log uploads or LoTW uploads, as these were be carried out by other RSGB volunteers, with Charles Wilmott, M0OXO, kindly agreeing to be the QSL manager for the call signs.

We have a document which provides much more information on how to operate using one of the historic RSGB call signs. This is available here…
