RSGB appoints two new volunteer Youth Champions
The RSGB is delighted to announce the appointment of two new volunteer Youth Champion roles.
Chris Aitken, MM0WIC will be the RSGB’s School Youth Champion and Rhys Williams, M0WGY/AJ6XD will be the University Youth Champion.
Chris is a Computing Science teacher at Wick High School, Caithness.
Since 2023, Chris has been running the Wick High School Radio Club, GM0WHS, providing students with a wide range of experiences in amateur radio.
He has four students who have passed their Foundation licence and are now taking on leadership roles within the club and assisting the latest cohort in their studies.

He is also a member of the RSGB Outreach Team.

Rhys represented the RSGB at the YOTA Camp in Prague this year and sent back daily reports on his activities.
He is starting a PhD in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Oxford and is keen to help the RSGB support the growth of amateur radio in universities across the UK.

Ben Lloyd, GW4BML is the Board Liaison for youth activities.
He says, “I welcome Chris and Rhys to their new youth volunteer roles and look forward to working closely with them in the future to attract and grow RSGB youth membership. We have already had a few positive conversations and shared some good ideas, which we will be putting into place over the coming months.”
Chris and Rhys are doing a joint presentation on Saturday morning at the RSGB Convention.
