John Hislop, G7OHO joins the ESRG
The RSGB’s Examinations and Syllabus Review Group (ESRG) is delighted to announce the appointment of John Hislop, G7OHO to the group. John is a retired physics teacher and has been licensed since 1992. During his teaching career, he taught the Novice and Foundation Licences to many youngsters during after-school clubs and set up radio stations at each of the schools.
As a STEM Ambassador, John now runs outreach sessions at a youth club in Ramsgate. The youngsters joined him in an RSGB presentation “Having fun with electronics, coding and amateur radio” at the RSGB 2021 Online Convention.
On retirement, John became the Club Secretary of the Hilderstone Radio Society and in 2014 he became the Vice Chairman. The club began to gain awards for Regional Club of the Year and in 2020 it achieved National Club of the Year. John has given many talks and demonstrations at club meetings, such as ‘Using the oscilloscope’ and ‘Relativity and amateur radio’. As one of the club trainers, he has coached club members to all levels of the licence.
John was instrumental in the organisation of a local school’s contact in 2016 with astronaut Tim Peake on the ISS, which was inspiring for all who attended the event in person or watched online.
John is currently writing a youngster’s manual for the Foundation Licence, which includes many engaging activities.
