Special Events News – 15 March 2015
Farnborough and District Radio Society is celebrating half a century of support and promotion of amateur radio. G50FRS will be operating until 30 November this year. They run club nets every Monday on 1995kHz and Friday on 144.675MHz both at 8pm and welcome anyone to join in.
GB0SGS will be on air on 16 and 17 March from St. Georges School, Wrotham Kent as part of British Science Week. The station will be run by Kevin, G0PEK along with nine-year-old Lauren, M6HLR. The two days will be split into two sessions of two hours each and have a theme of ‘how far can we instantly send a message?’ They plan to use PMR446 around the school field before moving on to 145MHz, 7 and 14MHz. Lauren will be keeping a diary of the event and reporting back to her own school who have also expressed an interest in running a similar project in the near future.
MX0YHA will be used by Kevin, M0XLT between 15 and 30 March at Gargrave near Skipton, which is approximately six miles from the YHA youth hostels at Malham and Earby in the Yorkshire Dales.
RAF Air Cadets from No. 2 Welsh Wing will have two stations operating on this year’s RAFARS Airfields on the Air. GB6RAF will be active on various dates between 20 and 29 March from RAF Hawarden in Flintshire using the 10 to 40m bands as well as 2m and 70cm. Then GB6RAF will be active on various dates between 30 March and 26 April from RAF Rednal in Shropshire using the 10 to 40m bands.
West Tyrone ARC will be running a special event station on 17 March to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. They will be located on the third floor of the Strule Arts Centre, Townhall Square, Omagh, BT78 1BL. Operating from 10am until 5pm, the callsign for the day is GB1SPD.
