Four new videos from the RSGB 2018 Convention have been uploaded to the RSGB YouTube channel. Palle Hansen, OZ1RH speaks about troposcatter on the VHF bands; Cezar Trifu, VE3LYC shares his thrilling and unforgettable IOTA experiences of H44R and H40D; John Worsnop, G4BAO speaks on the Wednesday Night Digifest, and Steve Nichols, G0KYA looks at the top HF propagation questions and some possible answers. The annual maintenance shutdown of the MSF service, the dedicated time broadcast, has been announced. The service will be off-air from 1000 to 1400BST on 12 September 2019. If the weather is unsuitable for work to be carried out, then the service will not be turned off.
Due to unusual circumstances, there will be no GB2RS news broadcast from Germany on 40m today, Sunday, 8 September 2019. Normal service should resume next week.
On Saturday, 14 September 2019 there will be many Churches and Chapels on the Air (CHOTA) activations. CHOTA activity is usually SSB on the 80, 40 and 20m bands from 10am to 4pm. Groups that have told us they intend to run stations are mentioned later and in this week’s regional news. A full list of participating stations can be found at wacral.org/chota-2019.
There’s still time to apply to be part of the Youngsters on the Air (YOTA) Winter Camp in the Netherlands from 12 to 15 December 2019. The closing date for applications is 30 September 2019.
The RSGB 2019 Convention takes place in Milton Keynes 11 to 13 October 2019. The provisional programme of lectures and workshops is at rsgb.org/convention. John Rogers, M0JAV and David Lauder, G0SNO will be running an RFI Clinic. The session will consist of a short presentation on the tools and techniques used to locate and identify RFI sources. Then a number of test setups will be available using radios, SDRs and spectrum analysers to let you see and hear some of these common RFI sources.
