National Radio Centre – GB3RS
Run by the Radio Society of Great Britain, the National Radio Centre (NRC) is a showcase for radio communications technology. It is open seven days a week. Click or tap on the image below to see a video about the NRC…
The NRC provides the opportunity to discover the history and development of radio from its outset through to modern communication methods.
RSGB Members can gain free admission to the NRC via a voucher on the RSGB website.
Please be aware that the NRC is closed occasionally for maintenance purposes so do check the RSGB news for any announcements. It is also closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and Easter Day.
Martyn Baker, G0GMB is the RSGB National Radio Centre Coordinator. He was interviewed for “The Face behind the Call” in January’s Practical Wireless magazine. Journalist Roger Dowling, G3NKH discovers how Martyn came into the hobby, and takes a look at his extensive shack. They also talk about volunteering at the RSGB National Radio Centre and the impressive equipment that makes up GB3RS. Our thanks to Practical Wireless magazine for giving us permission to share Martyn’s feature – just click to read.
NRC volunteers wanted
Want to play your part at the NRC?
We welcomed over 79,000 visitors to the NRC in 2023 and we are looking to recruit additional volunteers to engage with the public and give radio demonstrations.
If you’re interested in becoming an NRC volunteer you should be confident about meeting people, enjoy explaining about the hobby, and be prepared to use the GB3RS station to demonstrate amateur radio in action.
You should be a licensed amateur, an RSGB member and be prepared to work a minimum of one (preferably two) days per month.
You will be joining a team of enthusiastic, friendly and dedicated volunteers and full training will be given.
Travel expenses are paid to volunteers living within reasonable travelling distance and NRC volunteers enjoy numerous benefits associated with volunteering at Bletchley Park.
