It will be a total eclipse for areas west of the UK and at its maximum there will be about 90% totality in the UK. This lends itself to some HF propagation experiments and the <a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/about-us\/committees\/propagation-studies-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Propagation Studies Committee<\/strong><\/a> (PSC) are drawing up plans for RSGB members to participate. These include experiments with monitoring medium wave stations in the UK, Morocco and Algeria. An 80m CW contest is also being arranged and other radio amateurs are being encouraged to run WSPR on 80m during the eclipse. The RSGB PSC Chair Steve Nichols, ,G0KYA will outline what we can expect and why, as well as how you can participate.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>About the presenter<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Steve, G0KYA is the Chair of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/about-us\/committees\/propagation-studies-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>RSGB Propagation Studies Committee<\/strong><\/a>, with an interest in HF and the ionosphere.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote the RSGB book\u00a0<em>Radio Propagation Explained<\/em>, prepares the<a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/gb2rs\/propagation-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>\u00a0weekly propagation segment for GB2RS<\/strong><\/a>, and is a regular speaker\u00a0at RSGB conventions.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Watch live<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em>Tonight@8<\/em>\u00a0webinars are live-streamed on our<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/thersgb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouTube channel<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/batc.org.uk\/live\/rsgb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">special BATC channel<\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0allowing you to watch the presentations and ask questions online.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The presentation On 12 August there will be a solar eclipse visible in the UK.
