{"id":44034,"date":"2025-12-05T15:08:24","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T15:08:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/?p=44034"},"modified":"2025-12-05T15:50:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T15:50:15","slug":"5mhz-an-important-reminder-about-ft8-use-within-allocated-frequencies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/blog\/news\/gb2rs\/headlines\/2025\/12\/05\/5mhz-an-important-reminder-about-ft8-use-within-allocated-frequencies\/","title":{"rendered":"5MHz: an important reminder about FT8 use"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The RSGB reminds all radio amateurs that they must only operate within the UK allocated <a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/operating\/band-plans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>bands<\/strong> <\/a>for each mode.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ofcom.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong> Ofcom<\/strong> <\/a>has noticed that, increasingly, radio amateurs are using FT8 outside of the UK 60m allocations.<\/p>\n<p>They are monitoring usage and will write to you if they observe your call sign operating outside of this band.<\/p>\n<p>Please ensure the configuration of your FT8 software limits your transmissions to frequencies and bandwidth that are fully within the UK allocation.<\/p>\n<p>For example, when using WSJT-X for digital modes at 5357kHz, it is imperative that the transmitted signal is never above 5358kHz.<\/p>\n<p>Using <em>Hold TX Freq<\/em> can help with this.<\/p>\n<p>The Society works hard to protect the <a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/about-us\/committees\/spectrum-forum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>spectrum<\/strong> <\/a>for all radio amateurs to use, but that work will be made more difficult if radio amateurs continue to stray outside of the allocated bands.<\/p>\n<p>The Ofcom document <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ofcom.org.uk\/siteassets\/resources\/documents\/spectrum\/emf\/emf-amateur-licence-terms-and-conditions.pdf?v=386197\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>OFW611 Amateur Radio Licence Terms and Conditions<\/em><\/a><\/strong> (PDF) includes an explanation of all the frequencies available to radio amateurs in the UK.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The RSGB reminds all radio amateurs that they must only operate within the UK allocated bands for each mode.
