{"id":35697,"date":"2024-10-25T19:45:31","date_gmt":"2024-10-25T18:45:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/?p=35697"},"modified":"2024-10-25T19:49:03","modified_gmt":"2024-10-25T18:49:03","slug":"rsgb-releases-video-of-ariss-girlguiding-contact","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/blog\/news\/gb2rs\/headlines\/2024\/10\/25\/rsgb-releases-video-of-ariss-girlguiding-contact\/","title":{"rendered":"RSGB releases video of ARISS Girlguiding contact"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">On 5 October 2024, in her first official engagement as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.girlguiding.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Girlguiding<\/a><\/strong> Patron, HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh joined 100 excited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.girlguiding.org.uk\/what-we-do\/brownies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Brownies<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.girlguiding.org.uk\/what-we-do\/guides\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Guides<\/strong> <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.girlguiding.org.uk\/what-we-do\/rangers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Rangers<\/strong> <\/a>in making a live amateur radio contact with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/international-space-station\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>International Space Station<\/strong><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">The event was organised by The Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ariss.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Amateur Radio on the International Space Station<\/strong><\/a> (ARISS), in collaboration with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/uk-space-agency\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>UK Space Agency<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ggsw.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Girlguiding Surrey West<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brooklandsmuseum.com\/learning\/brooklands-innovation-academy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Brooklands Museum\u2019s Innovation Academy programme<\/strong><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">The aim was to promote the engagement and involvement of girls and young women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Everyone had a fantastic day and after the contact the girls enjoyed a variety of STEM activities including making <a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/blog\/publications\/books-extra\/2019\/09\/04\/snail-morse-practice-key\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Snail Morse keys<\/strong><\/a>, playing <a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/operating\/morse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Morse<\/strong> <\/a>battleships, learning about the CubeSat Simulator and making stomp rockets. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h4 class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\"><strong>The RSGB has created a short video snapshot of the day which you can see on its YouTube channel<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/brjGXjpndNY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>take a look<\/strong><\/a>!<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 5 October 2024, in her first official engagement as Girlguiding Patron, HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh joined 100 excited Brownies, Guides and Rangers in making a live amateur radio contact with the International Space Station.
