{"id":34020,"date":"2024-03-01T16:14:50","date_gmt":"2024-03-01T16:14:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/?p=34020"},"modified":"2024-03-01T16:22:01","modified_gmt":"2024-03-01T16:22:01","slug":"hf-beacon-list-updated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/blog\/news\/gb2rs\/headlines\/2024\/03\/01\/hf-beacon-list-updated\/","title":{"rendered":"HF beacon list updated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/about-us\/committees\/propagation-studies-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>RSGB&#8217;s Propagation Studies Committee<\/strong><\/a> (PSC) has released a new HF beacon list, with the 10m listings completely revamped.<\/p>\n<p>The old list, which was started by Martin Harrison G3USF (SK), had been added to over the years, but was getting out of date and the only way to make it more accurate was to start again.<\/p>\n<p>Use was made of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reversebeacon.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Reverse Beacon Network<\/strong> <\/a>(RBN), which wasn\u2019t available when the list was originally created, plus listeners\u2019 contributions from around the world.<\/p>\n<p>PSC chairman Steve Nichols, G0KYA said: \u201cI started by removing around 60 beacons that had not been heard for some time. Delving deeper it seems that a lot had been taken off the air, the owners had died, or their frequencies had changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUsing the RBN gave a pretty good indication of what beacons are actually on air, plus help from a list compiled by Gary ZL2IFB filled in some of the gaps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeacons that are temporarily off-air have been left in, but marked in black.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile no list will ever be complete as changes take place around the world, I think the list is now far more useable.
