{"id":27711,"date":"2021-12-06T16:00:24","date_gmt":"2021-12-06T16:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/?p=27711"},"modified":"2021-12-06T21:30:09","modified_gmt":"2021-12-06T21:30:09","slug":"6-december-2021-using-the-pluto-and-rpi4-for-amateur-tv-and-narrowband-use-by-noel-matthews-g8gtz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/blog\/tonight-at-eight-archive\/2021\/12\/06\/6-december-2021-using-the-pluto-and-rpi4-for-amateur-tv-and-narrowband-use-by-noel-matthews-g8gtz\/","title":{"rendered":"6 December 2021 &#8211; Using the Pluto and RPi4 for Amateur TV and Narrowband use by Noel Matthews, G8GTZ"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GqFLtLBgIo0?start=215\" width=\"100%\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">?<\/span><\/iframe><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Noel&#8217;s presentation<\/h3>\n<p>Following on from his talk <em>Advances in Amateur Television<\/em> at the RSGB 2016 convention, Noel Matthews, G8GTZ presents the latest developments in the ever-evolving world of amateur TV.<\/p>\n<p>Noel gives an overview of ATV activity in the UK and in particular how the use of reduced bandwidth (RBTV) signals enabled ATV QSOs on the lower VHF bands.<\/p>\n<p>He gives an introduction to the QO100 geostationary satellite which has enabled QSOs with fellow DATV operators as far away as Brazil, India and South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Noel also describes how the development of software-defined radio (SDR) based hardware and powerful single board computers such as the Raspberry Pi has revolutionised the development and capabilities of amateur radio dedicated products.<\/p>\n<p>He describes how it is possible for radio amateurs to build an advanced touch screen multimode narrowband and digital ATV transceiver covering 50 MHz to 10GHz, for under \u00a3350.<\/p>\n<h3>About Noel<\/h3>\n<p>Noel Matthews is currently the secretary of the <a href=\"https:\/\/batc.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>British Amateur Television Club<\/strong><\/a> (BATC) and is TV manager and Deputy Chair of the RSGB <a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/about-us\/committees\/emerging-technology-co-ordination-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Emerging Technology Co-ordination Committee<\/strong><\/a> (ETCC).<\/p>\n<p>Noel is mainly found operating on frequencies above 1 GHz, and has constructed equipment of all microwave bands, up to and including 122GHz.<\/p>\n<p>Noel was a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ariss.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>ARISS<\/strong><\/a> team who visited 10 schools during the Tim Peake <a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/news\/principia-mission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Principia<\/em><\/strong><\/a> mission and was responsible for reception of the live video received from the ISS during the school contacts.<\/p>\n<h3>Find out more<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Watch<\/strong>:\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7kSAtFQd-js\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RSGB 206 Convention lecture &#8211; <em>Advances in Amateur TV<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>?
