{"id":26224,"date":"2020-12-04T16:00:07","date_gmt":"2020-12-04T16:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/?p=26224"},"modified":"2020-12-21T16:15:18","modified_gmt":"2020-12-21T16:15:18","slug":"get-on-the-air-to-care-campaign-wins-international-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/blog\/news\/gb2rs\/headlines\/2020\/12\/04\/get-on-the-air-to-care-campaign-wins-international-award\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Get on the air to care&#8217; campaign wins international award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-26351 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/files\/2020\/12\/ARN_1400x1400-300x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/files\/2020\/12\/ARN_1400x1400-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/files\/2020\/12\/ARN_1400x1400-1024x1024.png 1024w, https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/files\/2020\/12\/ARN_1400x1400-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/files\/2020\/12\/ARN_1400x1400-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/files\/2020\/12\/ARN_1400x1400.png 1400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>We\u2019re delighted that this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arnewsline.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Amateur Radio Newsline\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> International Newsmaker of the Year Award has been presented to the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/get-on-the-air-to-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Get on the Air to Care<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 project operated jointly by the Radio Society of Great Britain and the UK&#8217;s National Health Service.<\/p>\n<p>The idea was conceived by Paul Devlin, G1SMP who is a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/improvement.nhs.uk\/improvement-hub\/emergency-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>NHS England Emergency Care Improvement Support Team<\/strong><\/a> and an <a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/about-us\/regional-managers\/england-west-midlands\/meet-the-region-5-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>RSGB District Representative<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, the campaign has decreased social isolation in the UK and around the world by encouraging amateurs to \u2018Get on the air to care\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>As well as enabling people to get involved in amateur radio for the first time and encouraging inactive hams to return, the campaign has accomplished something amateurs work so hard to achieve: placing amateur radio front and centre in <a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/get-on-the-air-to-care\/get-on-the-air-to-care-in-the-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>mainstream media channels<\/strong><\/a> such as the BBC, ITV Wales and major newspapers.
