He was a generous person who had time for everyone, and everyone had time for him. He always brought a smile into the room and had a good sense of fun.<\/p>\n<p>Bertie volunteered for duties in December 1940 and had been active on the Morse key ever since \u2013 almost a full eighty years. After leaving the RAF he held various airborne wireless operator posts: Berlin airlift, Sabena Airlines and Jersey Airlines. He worked for the diplomatic wireless service as a radio operator and had tours of duty at many embassies around the world.<\/p>\n<p>In retirement, his interest in radio never dimmed.
