However, they have become extremely popular and are selling well outside the original target market including in amateur radio. Well-known expert Mike Richards, G4WNC sets out to provide the basics of the Raspberry Pi, alongside making them work in an amateur radio context.

About Mike

Mike has been involved in radio and electronics since his childhood days. Following a 42-year career with BT, Mike—who was first licensed as G8HHA—turned to computing in the early 70s where he experimented with radio data links between his Compukit UK101 and a friend’s TRS-80. That spurred him on to get his Full licence, G4WNC, where he has maintained an interest in digital modes. Mike’s writing career began some 25 years ago when he took over the PW RTTY column from Ron Ham and has been writing reviews and regular columns for many radio magazines including RadCom. His latest endeavour has been the well-received book Raspberry Pi Explained for Radio Amateurs, published by the RSGB.

Check out Mike’s book – Raspberry Pi Explained for Radio Amateurs
Available now from the RSGB Shop

Find out more

Please note the RSGB is not responsible for the content of external websites. Also note that any software listed here is downloaded at the reader’s own risk, and the RSGB is not responsible for any unwanted effects arising from its use.

Lecture, blog and support group

Watch Mike’s 2017 Convention lecture Pi in the shack

Mike’s web page for ready-to-use SD cards and Raspberry Pi blog
g4wnc.com

Raspberry Pi Explained support group for the book and all things Pi
groups.io/g/Raspberry-Pi-Explained/topics

SDR receivers

Hermes Lite-2 transceiver info

Hermes Lite-2 on Makerfabs

RadioBerry Wiki

Airspy receivers and software

Pi cases and cooling

Aluminium Armour –
