{"id":19542,"date":"2018-03-27T16:48:58","date_gmt":"2018-03-27T16:48:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/?p=19542"},"modified":"2018-03-27T16:48:58","modified_gmt":"2018-03-27T16:48:58","slug":"supporting-clubs-to-encourage-growth-and-participation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/blog\/news\/rsgb-notices\/2018\/03\/27\/supporting-clubs-to-encourage-growth-and-participation\/","title":{"rendered":"Supporting clubs to encourage growth and participation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-17844\" src=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/files\/2017\/07\/rsgb-strategy-medium-150x131.png\" alt=\"RSGB Strategy 2022\" width=\"150\" height=\"131\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/files\/2017\/07\/rsgb-strategy-medium-150x131.png 150w, https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/files\/2017\/07\/rsgb-strategy-medium.png 222w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>We know that clubs around the country are doing great things to encourage new people into amateur radio and to help current radio amateurs to develop their skills at all levels.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>The Society provides a range of services to support clubs in these activities, from the administration of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/clubs-training\/for-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exams<\/a><\/strong> to the provision of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/about-us\/committees\/contest-support-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contests<\/a><\/strong> and the help of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/about-us\/regional-managers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Regional team<\/a><\/strong>. However, it also provides other tools to enable clubs to nurture growth and participation \u2013 two of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/about-us\/rsgb-strategy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RSGB\u2019s strategic priorities<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 and this month we\u2019d like to highlight a few that are new or that clubs may be less familiar with.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kit-building workshops:<\/strong> In order to encourage participation in construction activities, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/about-us\/committees\/legacy-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RSGB Legacy Committee<\/a><\/strong> funding has enabled the purchase of a tool kit that can be loaned to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/clubs\/club-finder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Affiliated Clubs and Groups<\/a><\/strong>. This new kit contains twelve sets of tools, currently transported in two roll-along suitcases, including everything you need to run your own Buildathon or Club kit-building workshop. Clubs are expected to provide the consumables, solder, kits, etc and a report of their event for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/publications-archives\/radcom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RadCom<\/a><\/strong> but transport costs are being covered by the RSGB Legacy funding for the first year. Clubs will soon be able to book the tool kit by completing an online application form \u2013 look out for announcements across our communication channels. Steve Hartley, G0FUW will be coordinating the kits initially so contact him if you\u2019d like to find out more by email to <a href=\"mailto:g0fuw@rsgb.org.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">g0fuw@rsgb.org.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><strong>Amateur Radio Direction Finding (ARDF) equipment:<\/strong> The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/about-us\/committees\/ardf-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ARDF Committee<\/a><\/strong> is keen to open up this aspect of \u2018Sport Radio\u2019 to regions where there isn\u2019t any local ARDF activity. Their RSGB equipment can be loaned to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/clubs\/club-finder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Affiliated Societies<\/a><\/strong> and the 3.5MHz equipment is configured to provide five transmitters in a five-minute cycle accompanied by ten receivers. A map of the area to be used is not essential but the equipment gives a realistic feel for the \u2018classic\u2019 ARDF format. The 144MHz equipment comprises a set of five transmitters (with rechargeable batteries) and antennas but no receivers are included. Currently there are 30 talks in our online video portal, with many more due to be released during this year. They are a fabulous resource at your ngertips and a great way to inspire club members to try new aspects of amateur radio. Take a look at <a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/videos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>www.rsgb.org\/videos<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Building on this, the<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/about-us\/committees\/propagation-studies-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Propagation Studies Committee<\/a><\/strong> (PSC) has created two<br \/>\ndownloadable, narrated video presentations for clubs: Understanding HF Propagation and<br \/>\nRadio Propagation \u2013 VHF and higher. Both come with notes and have the option of a<br \/>\nSkype Q&amp;A session with a PSC member. Over 130 clubs have seen one of the presentations and the feedback has been excellent \u2013 would your club members be interested?
