{"id":16146,"date":"2016-10-07T14:49:42","date_gmt":"2016-10-07T14:49:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/?p=16146"},"modified":"2016-10-07T14:49:42","modified_gmt":"2016-10-07T14:49:42","slug":"yota-month-deadline-extended","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/blog\/news\/gb2rs\/headlines\/2016\/10\/07\/yota-month-deadline-extended\/","title":{"rendered":"YOTA Month deadline extended"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We often hear that young people are our future and we just need a good reason to bring amateur radio to their attention.<\/p>\n<p>The Tim Peake <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ariss.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">ARISS<\/a> contacts resulted in a number of new school radio clubs starting up and hosting a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ham-yota.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">YOTA<\/a> station could do the same.<\/p>\n<p>December is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ham-yota.com\/december-yota-month\/\" target=\"_blank\">YOTA Month<\/a> across Europe and Africa and the RSGB is coordinating the UK participants.<\/p>\n<p>In short, any Affiliated club, school, college, university or youth group can apply to host the special call sign GB16YOTA for a day\u2014or two\u2014during December.<\/p>\n<p>The only stipulation is that the event must be aimed at getting youngsters on the air.<\/p>\n<p>The special event station can be the main attraction, or you can wrap other activities around it.<\/p>\n<p>A report on last year&#8217;s event was on <a href=\"https:\/\/thersgb.org\/members\/publications\/radcom\/2016\/april\/#22\" target=\"_blank\">page 22 of the April 2016 <em>RadCom<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for applications has been extended to Saturday, 15 October, so there is no time to waste!<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in joining in, or would like more information, ask for an application form from yota.month@rsgb.org.uk.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We often hear that young people are our future and we just need a good reason to bring amateur radio to their attention.
