So why not make a weekend of it?

Watch our short video and hear from participants who explored new opportunities with Arduino and enjoyed having a full six hours to see the project through from start to finish!

What should I expect?

The six-hour workshop, run by RSGB Board Directors Stewart Bryant, G3YSX and Mark Jones, G0MGX is intended for those who already have a basic knowledge of Arduino programming. At the end of the workshop, you will have programmed a Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS) and have used this to generate RF. You will also have learnt to use generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, to write software, and will have applied this to DDS programming.

Stewart and Mark will introduce you to the AD9850, AD9851 and ADF4351. The workshop will cover the maths associated with the more complex ADF4351, and the basic programming requirements for its usage. It will then focus on practical programming examples using this hardware, including some generated using AI coding techniques also known as vibe coding.

It’s a great opportunity to meet and share ideas with other like-minded RSGB members, and you’ll leave with the components you have used to continue your experiments at home.

“Excellent workshop. Very good introduction into both Arduino and DDS”

“Great, thanks guys! Learnt so much”

2025 Convention workshop attendees

How can I take part?

This workshop is available to RSGB members only and pre-booking is essential. Spaces are limited to 20 people and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The workshop runs from 10.00 to 16:00, and costs £60 which includes refreshments, a light buffet lunch and the hardware used in the workshop to take home.

Please note, you will need to supply your own laptop and download specified software in advance.

This workshop is being held as a part of the Society’s strategy to support radio amateurs in developing their practical skills.

Hear more from Mark, G0MGX in Experimenters’ Corner, the RadCom column covering everything from home-brew construction techniques and 3D printing to software development and cost-saving tips.

Bookings have now closed for this workshop Are you looking to advance your programming skills in 2026?
