This is an important step in ensuring that the Society is properly governed. The Board plays the critical role in the strategic direction and activities of the Society. It’s vital that we have a Board that is closely in touch with the membership, a Board with the right balance of Directors with the necessary skills and ability to develop and nurture the Society’s future, particularly in light of the changing world of amateur radio. Never has the rate of change been so great, and the RSGB needs to be ahead of the wave.

Being a Board member is fun and rewarding – and we need the very best people to come forward to play their part in helping drive the Society forward.

Too often, we know that people feel that they can “leave it to others”. But now is the time to come forward and volunteer to serve the interests of amateur radio and the Society for its long-term future and success. The RSGB needs people who are committed to amateur radio, have good interpersonal skills, and understand how to work effectively with their colleague Directors. Previous experience of working at Board level is not essential, as you’ll be given training for your role as a Director.

You’ll need to have a broad outlook on amateur radio, be a clear thinker and able to understand many different viewpoints and positions so that a coherent strategy can be developed and implemented, particularly with regard to the emerging trends which will influence the Society’s future.

Being a Board member doesn’t necessarily involve lots of travel to meetings. Most Board meetings are short and handled via video call. You’ll be part of a small and dedicated team of Directors who are shaping the Society to support the future direction of amateur radio in Great Britain.

The Society has been around for over a hundred years, and we want to ensure it’s here for another hundred years to protect, promote and enhance amateur wireless communication.

If you’d like an informal chat in confidence about standing for the Board, contact Bob Beebe, newly appointed chair of the Board Nominations Committee.
