{"id":27131,"date":"2021-04-30T13:27:25","date_gmt":"2021-04-30T12:27:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/?page_id=27131"},"modified":"2022-05-19T18:25:13","modified_gmt":"2022-05-19T17:25:13","slug":"survey-on-amateur-radio","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/archive\/consultation-archive\/survey-on-amateur-radio\/","title":{"rendered":"Survey on amateur radio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-27138 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/files\/2021\/04\/yota_operator_nrc.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/files\/2021\/04\/yota_operator_nrc.png 600w, https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/files\/2021\/04\/yota_operator_nrc-300x106.png 300w, https:\/\/rsgb.org\/main\/files\/2021\/04\/yota_operator_nrc-150x53.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>The International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) Region 1 is holding a strategic workshop to understand:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>How national societies can attract new radio amateurs<\/li>\n<li>How the IARU can better support the amateur radio community, and its member societies adapt to changes<\/li>\n<li>What the IARU and member societies can jointly do to support the growth of amateur radio<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each of the national societies in the region has been asked to describe the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that apply to amateur radio in their country.<\/p>\n<p>The RSGB has asked radio amateurs in the UK\u2014including Crown Dependencies\u2014and those not yet licensed to help by answering the following questions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Strengths<\/strong> \u2013 what are the good things about amateur radio in the UK?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Weakness<\/strong> \u2013 in what ways is amateur radio weak in the UK?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Opportunities<\/strong> \u2013 what trends or changes in the environment could amateur radio in UK take advantage of?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Threats<\/strong> \u2013 what trends or changes in the environment could have a negative impact on amateur radio in UK?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>We were looking for answers that address key strategic challenges for UK amateur radio such as its future relevance in a changing world, rather than focusing on localised issues.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We were delighted that over 1,000 people replied to the survey.
