Winter YOTA camp – Let\u2019s go PA!<\/h3>\n

This December, we sent a team of young RSGB Members to the YOTA Winter camp<\/strong><\/a> in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

Charlie, 2E0FMZ<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"I\u2019m an 18-year-old radio amateur from Lincolnshire although I\u2019m mostly heard in Cambridgeshire as I attend college there. I am passionate about radio and have mostly spent my time on VHF\/UHF as I don\u2019t have a HF-capable radio. However, I have had HF operating experience at my local club LSWC\/G5FZ.
\nI am very interested in the science behind ham radio and can\u2019t wait to get my full licence and an HF radio. I want to try out SSTV, as well as eventually learning CW. I\u2019m looking forward to learning new skills at this year\u2019s Winter YOTA camp and put my existing skills to good use.<\/p>\n

\"\"I am a 17-year-old A Level student from Caldicot. I got into the hobby through the RAF Air Cadets not really knowing what I was getting myself into. However, the bug bit me and here I am!
\nI really enjoy operating using digital modes, including PSK31 and SSTV. My particular interest at the moment is experimenting with packet radio as I can link it with my interest in programming. I am greatly looking forward to the Winter camp and meeting like-minded people.<\/p>\n

\n\"\"I am an A Level student studying Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Further Maths. I was first introduced to amateur radio in 2016, when I studied for the foundation licence as part of a small group at St Richard\u2019s Catholic College. The same year, I was fortunate to participate in the ARISS contact with Major Tim Peake.
\nI became fascinated by amateur radio and determined to learn more. Subsequently, I introduced my Granny to the hobby, and we both went on to obtain the full licence. I can\u2019t wait to expand my practical experience at the YOTA camp.<\/p>\n

\n\"\"I am 16 years old and have been into amateur radio for two years. I first got hooked when I went to spectate at a field event with my dad to find out about how radios work and to see people talking to other amateurs all over the world.
\nWhat interests me the most about amateur radio is the fact that it gives you the ability to talk with people from around the world by transmitting and receiving over HF. I also have an interest in the technological side of radio and am fascinated with the components and the process of building your own radio.<\/p>\n

\n\"\"I am a 16-year-old A Level student based in Hertfordshire. I achieved my foundation licence at the age of 10 after discovering amateur radio through my guitar teacher. I have held my intermediate licence for three years.
\nI have learned about using Automatic Packet Response Systems and through doing a project at school I even managed to bounce signals off the International Space Station and translate them once they returned to earth. I am a member of the school radio club where we try to encourage more young people into radio.<\/p>\n
