RadCom Technical Editor

The RadCom Technical Editor reports to the Managing Editor and will work mainly on the technical pages of RadCom.

You will commission articles and liaise with authors on their articles from initial approaches to the final project appearing in print. You will work closely with the expert volunteers on the RSGB Technical Forum for article ideas and peer reviews of technical content. The role also includes sub-editing copy sent in by contributors and regular columnists.

The Technical Editor will help to guide the content of RadCom Basics and RadCom Plus supplements with their editors as appropriate.

The role also includes being part of the team that puts together GB2RS, the Society’s weekly online and radio broadcast news, including finding stories or news items on which to report. Another aspect of the job involves answering Member queries on technical and licensing matters.

You must be positive, enthusiastic about technology and able to work well with the wider team and RSGB membership. With the Managing Editor, you will help us to develop the entire co-ordinated RadCom portfolio, including exploiting new media opportunities.

You need an excellent command of English, a good eye for detail and be able to work to exacting standards, often under pressure. A wide range of radio and electronic knowledge is required, including amateur radio. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate knowledge of several of the following: antenna construction, digital techniques, computer hardware and software, datamodes, VHF, UHF and microwaves communications, construction techniques including surface mount devices.

Experience in proofreading is advantageous but not essential.

This staff position is based at RSGB headquarters near Bedford, although an element of working from home could be discussed. The salary is negotiable depending upon relevant qualifications and experience.
