YOTA 2019

YOTA Bulgaria 2019 – applications now open!

The 2019 Youngsters on the Air (YOTA) summer camp will be held in Bulgaria, close to the capital city of Sofia. The Bulgarian Federation of Radio Amateurs (BFRA) will be hosting the event, which will take place from 11-17 August 2019. This is a chance in a lifetime for young RSGB Members to represent their country and national society.

The main theme of the week will be the train-the-trainer (TTT) programme, and there will be plenty of time to enjoy amateur radio as well, visiting LZ9W, kit-building or visiting the factory of ACOM. Since there will be many nationalities involved, there will be cultural elements throughout the event.

We would love to hear from you if you’re interested in meeting other young amateurs, supporting local and regional YOTA activities, and developing ideas regarding the future of amateur radio.

We are looking for team members who must:
• Be Members of the RSGB, aged between 15 and 25
• Preferably not have been a participant at previous YOTA camps
• Hold a current passport that enables travel to Bulgaria
• Be willing to pay £50 towards the cost of the trip – all other costs will be covered
• Be willing to be active and contribute to planning and delivering activities for young amateurs in their region
• Actively support the RSGB Youth Team upon return from camp
• Maintain a log of events during the camp and contribute to social media updates

We are also looking for a Team Leader who must be:
• An RSGB Member, aged between 18 and 30
• Eager to organise amateur radio-related youth events
• Able to organise travel arrangements for the team
• Able to motivate a team of young people and support all team members to engage as fully as possible during the camp and afterwards.

How to apply

To apply to become a team member, please email Sara McGarvey, 2I0SSW, RSGB Youth Champion at youth.champion@rsgb.org.uk. If you are interested in becoming the Team Leader, please email Mark Jones, G0MGX, RSGB Board Member at g0mgx@rsgb.org.uk. The closing date for applications is Sunday 14 April 2019.

Previous events have shown that all participants have an unforgettable week, where many new friendships are started. Peter Barnes, M0SWN was an RSGB team member who attended camp last year said, ‘YOTA camp was a fantastic experience for me, I met many new people who share my interest in amateur radio. Being involved also reignited my passion for the hobby and since returning I have become an active member of the RSGB Youth Team’. Watch the video and find out more about YOTA 2018.
