{"id":501,"date":"2013-03-26T14:10:34","date_gmt":"2013-03-26T14:10:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rsgbbeta.org\/events\/?page_id=501"},"modified":"2013-04-05T12:17:28","modified_gmt":"2013-04-05T12:17:28","slug":"creating-an-event","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/events\/rsgb-events-site\/for-managers\/manage-events\/creating-an-event\/","title":{"rendered":"Creating an Event &#8211; Help"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>To create an Event:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Select the \u201cEvent\u201d option from the \u201cNew\u201d top-bar menu, or go to the \u201c<a title=\"Create and Manage Events\" href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/events\/rsgb-events-site\/for-managers\/manage-events\/\">Create and Manage Events<\/a>\u201d page under the \u201c<a title=\"For Managers\" href=\"https:\/\/rsgb.org\/events\/rsgb-events-site\/for-managers\/\">For Managers<\/a>\u201d menu option and click \u201cAdd New\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Give the event a name.<\/strong> Avoid using the event&#8217;s location as its name, as the various tables and lists of events will usually include the Location name as well.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Enter dates and times<\/strong> for the event as appropriate. You will need to enter at least one date.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Set the Category.<\/strong> Choose the most appropriate category from the menu at the end of the &#8220;Details&#8221; section, or\u00a0check the relevant button in the \u201cEvent Categories\u201d panel (if you are using the Dashboard).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Set the Location.<\/strong> Enter enough of the appropriate location\u2019s name for a drop-down to appear, and then select the location from the drop-down list, or else use all the location fields to create a new Location. If the event does not have a physical location then select the \u201cThis event does not have a physical location\u201d button, and choose the most appropriate option for the &#8220;Reason for No Location&#8221; field.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Enter event details<\/strong> (such as contact details, programme details and costs) in the main editing panel. Please always include at least a brief description of the event. Use the headings format (&#8220;Heading 3&#8221; or &#8220;Heading 4&#8221; work well) for paragraph headings. If the description is long, please put a short summary at the top, and place a &#8220;Read More&#8221; marker after it. Either use the Visual editor&#8217;s &#8220;Insert More Tag&#8221; button, or:\n<ul>\n<li>Go into Text mode in the description editor.<\/li>\n<li>enter &#8220;&lt;!&#8211;more More Details&#8211;&gt;&#8221; at the appropriate place, on a line by itself.\u00a0The &#8220;More Details&#8221; can say something else, but the rest must be exactly as shown.<\/li>\n<li>Go back to Visual mode.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Set the additional table fields.<\/strong> There are five extra fields which may be set. If present they may appear in tables of events. They should be kept short, so use abbreviations rather than full names where possible, and explain the abbreviation, if necessary, in the main event description. These extra fields are:\n<ul>\n<li>\u201c<strong>Sponsor<\/strong>\u201d should be entered, and used to indicate the club (or other group) responsible for the event.<\/li>\n<li>\u201c<strong>Organizer<\/strong>\u201d may contain a contact&#8217;s name, callsign or phone number.<\/li>\n<li>\u201c<strong>Event Status<\/strong>\u201d has preset values, so is set by selecting one of them from a drop-down menu. If set it will appear <i style=\"color: #f04249;\">in red<\/i> after the event&#8217;s name in event tables.<\/li>\n<li>\u201c<strong>Event Code<\/strong>\u201d is intended to indicate something more about the event&#8217;s categorisation, and will appear after the category name in event displays. For example, an ARDF event might have \u201c144\/3.5\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>\u201c<strong>Reason for No Location<\/strong>\u201d should be used if the \u201cThis event does not have a physical location\u201d box in the \u201cWhere\u201d panel has been checked. Choose the most appropriate of the available options. Note that this is only displayed to users if there is no Location set. If a Location is set then this field will be ignored.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Check and submit the Event.<\/strong> When you think the event is sufficiently accurately entered, use the \u201cPreview\u201d button to view it (if you have been using the Dashboard edit screen) and then submit it..
