RAYNET: amateur radio emergency communications in the UK
In the UK amateur radio emergency communications are usually provided by organised groups under the general term RAYNET.
Some groups affiliate as societies to the RSGB; others join The Radio Amateurs’ Emergency Network (RAEN)—the ‘Network’—an organisation dedicated to RAYNET. Some join both; a few operate as independent groups.
The ‘Network’ is a registered charity, affiliated to the RSGB and there is regular liaison between the two, promoting a coordinated approach to emergency communications.
There are about 200 groups around the country.
