British Inland Waterways on the Air (BiWota)
BiWota brings together the users of the canals and rivers in the UK who are amateur radio enthusiasts. Two events are planned this summer, May 3rd – 5th will be the main event on the air, this is earlier than usual in the hope that propagation will be better than in the last two years. Many stations will be operating to support the annual canalway cavalcade which is a unique waterways and community festival arranged by IWA at Little Venice in London since 1983. ?It is a boaters’ gathering, a pageant of boats, stalls, bands, kids’ activities and competitions, well worth a visit if you are in London.
2014 is the 50th anniversary of the re-opening of the southern Stratford upon Avon canal and the 40th anniversary of the re-opening of the Upper Avon Navigation 2014. The Stratford River Festival on July 5th -6th celebrates these anniversaries and will again see BiWota stations on the air. Many boats also attend local festivals and set up Special Event Stations to promote Amateur Radio on the Waterways.
