WRC-12 Day 8 – 30 January 2012 – An allocation or no allocation?

| January 30, 2012

Meetings, followed by meetings, followed by meetings. Starting at 8.30am and, with short breaks for lunch and coffee, the final meeting of the day finished around 7pm. Already, the sub working group dealing with the 500kHz issue has met for an extra session, with yet another scheduled for tomorrow. Iran remains firmly opposed to an allocation to the amateur service, while the Russian position has softened slightly – providing certain conditions are written into the regulations.

Discussions continue in the group dealing with agenda item 1.15, HF Oceanic Radar, and it is now becoming apparent that an allocation in the 5MHz band is favoured. Just where and how large remains to be seen.
