This year sees the first ever Buildathon at an RSGB Convention; a kit building workshop with mentors on hand to assist and guide. The kit being built is the Kanga UK Acorn II SDR receiver for 7MHz. The build will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, 10 October at the Kent’s Hill Convention Centre. Places can be booked via the Convention booking page on the RSGB Shop. If you would like to learn a bit more about the kit, Dan, M0TGN, one of the mentors, has posted a video of his test build on YouTube. If you want any additional information you can email RSGB Board member Steve Hartley, G0FUW via g0fuw@rsgb.org.uk.

ARISS, the body that enables students worldwide to experience the excitement of talking directly with crew members of the International Space Station via amateur radio, held its European section board elections recently. I0ELE was elected as chairman, DG6BCE as technical director and PE1KEH an F6DZP as council members.

The RSGB Convention takes place 9 to 11 October at Kent’s Hill Conference Centre in Milton Keynes. An updated programme for Saturday and Sunday is now on the website. Convention packages are still available and day tickets can be booked online, saving you £5 on each ticket. Online bookings will close on 4 October. Go to www.rsgb.org/convention for all the information.

For the next two weeks, GB2RS will be read via the GB3BT repeater in Berwick-upon-Tweed at 7pm on Sunday evenings. This trial is to ensure that the local club meeting information reaches as many amateurs as possible in the area.

It is the final call for entries to the RSGB Construction Competition this week. Entries close on Wednesday, 30 September and judging will take place at the RSGB Convention. Full details are on the RSGB website at www.rsgb.org/construction-competition. Don’t forget, many of the projects you have completed for local construction competitions will be suitable as an entry.

The Training and Education Committee has organised a meeting for all those interested in delivering amateur radio training, whether as a tutor, as a provider of support materials, a writer of exam questions or simply as someone interested in seeing what is happening at the RSGB Convention on the 10 October from 11am to 12.15pm.
