Cuban amateurs get 5MHz endorsement

| May 30, 2014

Cuba’s Ministry of Communications has begun issuing licence endorsements for experimental operation on 60 metres, although use of the band is on a secondary basis. Its principal use will be during emergencies. Cubans who are granted an endorsement will be allowed to transmit between 5418 and 5430kHz on CW, SSB and PSK-31. They may only contact other Cuban stations; no international contacts are allowed. Maximum power output is 50W or 10W for Novice operators and up to 100W may be authorised in emergencies. Despite these restrictions, Cuban amateurs would appreciate listener reports.
