Amateur radio first responders along the United States Gulf shore were ready when Hurricane Isaac slammed ashore on 28 and 29 August. Members of the Hurricane Watch Net took to the air to track its approach and, although band conditions on 20 and 40m were not the greatest, the net continued and began passing storm conditions to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. The Net ceased its operation on the afternoon of Wednesday 29 August once Hurricane Isaac was downgraded to a tropical storm.
