Project DX15: Wales Youth DXpedition
The Youth Committee is running a Kenwood-sponsored Youth DXpedition to the Brecon Beacons in Wales
This is the first young persons’ DXpedition the Society has organised and will be operating as MC0RYC (QRZ) from 23-30 July.
Throughout the course of the week, the nine young radio amateurs, who range in age from 11 to 25 years old, will be taking part in an array of activities—including the Summits On The Air (SOTA) scheme—for which they will be ascending Pen-y-Fan and Waun Fach.
Subject to weather conditions, SOTA activations will take place on the afternoons of 25 and 26 July, and around 12.00 UTC on 28 and 29 July. These times are approximate, but updates will be issued via Twitter, @theRSGByouth with the hashtag #ProjectDX15.
In addition to SOTA, the group will be taking part in many other activities, including amateur radio direction-finding, antenna-building workshops, satellite operations, contesting, construction and the reinforcing of good operating practices.
As well as having fun, the trip aims to help train today’s youngsters to be competent and confident radio amateurs, encouraging them to participate and progress in this diverse hobby.
You can support the young radio amateurs by:
- following our progress on Twitter, @theRSGByouth
- working the first Youth DXpedition in the UK—frequencies being posted via Twitter and the DX Cluster
- listening for the callsign MC0RYC during the Islands On The Air contest over 25-26 July
A unique QSL card will be available both directly and via the RSGB bureau.
