Terms of Reference – IWG

Purpose

  • To think creatively, unbounded by any current ways and means, about the future development of amateur radio as noted in the 2017-22 RSGB Strategy.  Also known as “blue sky thinking”
  • Explore identified development opportunities and how they can be encouraged.  Produce ideas for further investigation.

Working procedures & methods

  • The Working Group has an initial 12 month term, renewable at the discretion of the Board
  • Chair to be selected by the members of the Group for a maximum of a 6 month term, renewable
  • Operation:
    • Entirely electronically with virtual meetings by Skype as necessary
    • No requirement for formal agendas and minutes (unless that is what the Group wishes) but there must be reasonably sufficient notes and records of discussions plus actions to ensure efficient operation of the WG
    • A Yahoo Group or similar will be provided
    • Face to face meeting at the 2017 Convention if there is anything meaningful to discuss
  • Reporting:
    • Quarterly interim reports to the Board required, or more frequently if context requires
    • Formal report to members to be published in the April 2018 Radcom, but subject to any intellectual property rights (IPR) as below
    • Frequent and interesting brief informal updates on the WG work to members on the RSGB website and/or in Radcom, subject again to IPR as below
  • No allocated budget, any expenditure to be applied for and agreed before it occurs
  • All WG members to sign the usual RSGB volunteering agreements
  • General Manager is a corresponding member and one Board Liaison Member is appointed.

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)

  • Treatment of IPR arising from the Innovations Working Group shall be agreed with the IWG members.
